Professional Ambulance Driver Training

Accreditation: IHCD (Edexel) Award D1/D2.

Course Description: This course consists of 2 modules. The first, D1, runs for 5 days and introduces the driver to the practical systematic driving framework, the Highway Code, road traffic law and the Ambulance Driving Manual. The second module, D2, runs for 10 days and covers advanced driving techniques in non-emergency and emergency situations. Both modules of the course include practical and written examinations that must be passed in order to complete the course successfully.

We now have the capability to offer all driving candidates a dvd containing video footage of their driving sessions. This allows a driving candidate to hold a physical copy of their driving course progress.

Course Length: 3 weeks (Monday-Friday). This course is normally run from our Huddersfield base. (We usually run one course each month).

Requirements: All applicants must hold a current UK driving licence. Although the vehicles we use for the course do not fall under the C1 driving restrictions, it would be beneficial if course candidates hold the DVLA C1 & D1 driving entitlements, although this is not a course requirement.

Course content: The course includes: Observation skills, braking, steering, gear changing, basic implementation of the road-craft system of driving, overtaking, corners and bends, hazard awareness, reversing and manoeuvring, motorway driving, night driving, skid avoidance, the ability to drive the vehicle safely to emergencies and more.
