IHCD Ambulance Technician Training

ERS Training Ltd is pleased to announce that following the success of previous courses, we will now be holding two Edexcel/Institute of Heath Care Development (IHCD) / BTEC Level 3 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses per year. Courses will take place at Birmingham City University.
The
course consists of three modules taken over 8 weeks.

IHCD Ambulance Technician course details

Accreditation:  Institute of Health Care Development (IHCD) (Edexel) Award (BTEC Level 3)

Course Description: This course will suit students who are just entering into the pre hospital care sector or existing ECA/assistant practitioner level staff wishing to turn their existing qualification into the industry standard recognised Edexcel BTEC IHCD qualification. This award is the minimum requirement to work unsupervised as a qualified member of an ambulance in the UK.

The course has 3 modules (D,E & F), students must pass theoretical and practical assessments for each of the modules to be successful. On completion of the course, students must complete 750 hours of probationary work with a HPC registered Paramedic or an IHCD qualified Ambulance Technician. The probationary period will be used to further assess the student’s abilities, and allow students to demonstrate competency in all the relevant key skills. ERS Ltd always tries to provide students with after-course probationary placements but this cannot always be guaranteed.

 

Course length: The course runs for 8 weeks (Monday-Friday). Courses are held at one of our dedicated training suites including: Birmingham City University and our Huddersfield Training Headquarters.

 

Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this QCA level 3 award, however we must be satisfied that you stand a reasonable chance of passing the rigorous assessments throughout the course. You will also be required to have an enhanced CRB check and be in good health with the ability to carry out strenuous handling and moving procedures. All students are expected to behave in a professional and courteous manner befitting someone who aspires to gain access to a uniformed, disciplined service. 

 

Course content: The course includes an Anatomical and Physiological overview of the respiratory, cardio-vascular, nervous, digestive, reproductive and skeletal systems. Injuries and disease are covered in extensive detail as well as moving and handling, advanced life support, assisting the paramedic and much more.

We are holding the 8 week course at our well equipped training centre at Birmingham City University. The course will be directed by the ERS Training Ltd Director of Education who will be supported by a faculty of experienced HPC Paramedics and IHCD EMTs who have extensive experience in the NHS, private sector and the military.

This course will suit students who are just entering into the pre hospital care sector or existing ECA/assistant practitioner level staff wishing to turn their existing qualification into the industry standard recognised Edexcel BTEC IHCD qualification. This award is the minimum requirement to work unsupervised as a qualified member of an ambulance in the UK.

The course will be eight weeks in duration. There will be 3 periods of summative assessments that must be passed in order to achieve the IHCD EMT award. You must attend 90% of the course in order to satisfy the IHCD requirements and then undertake 750 hours of supervised practice in emergency ambulances. Your supervised practice must be carried out with and IHCD EMT or HPC Paramedic and you will be required to keep a portfolio of evidence which will undergo verification after you have completed the 750 hours.

 

Next Course Date: The next course in 2012 is planned to commence in June, this will start on the 4th and run for a straight 8 weeks. More details will be released in due course regarding the next course running in February 2013.
